KCDP Phone # 540-4001 311 Morgan Street 37917
September 16th is our monthly meeting held at 311 Morgan Street at 6:30 pm. There is much work to do concerning our candidates for election in November. We are hard at work with State House candidates Sam Alexander in the 18th and Mike Dockery in the 17th, State Senate candidate Randy Walker in the 7th, and of course Mike McWherter, our Democratic candidate for Governor! Please feel free to give us a call or come by HQ if you would like to volunteer with a campaign or work in the office. Join us in celebrating Labor Day with the Teamsters and other Union folks who have helped to bring us better wages, benefits, safe working conditions, and a reasonable work week! Come and mingle with our candidates as well as they will all be in attendance at this event on World’s Fair Park from 12-4 on September 6th. There will be food, music and other family entertainment! There is a Committee Meeting of the Chair and Vice Chairs on Friday the 10th at 6:30 at HQ to discuss a single issue involving the bylaws. This meeting is open to Executive Committee members to observe.
Another great place to look for KCDP events and discussion is Knox Dems on Facebook!

The KCDP Board of Governors met May 21st and voted to open an office in Knox County. We feel that in order to build the party and accomplish our goals for 2010, we must have a place to share ideas, disseminate information, and support candidates and elected officials all the time, not just during an election cycle. We are hoping to keep the office open Monday-Saturday from 10-6. The office will be located at 311 Morgan Street, where the AFL-CIO has their offices. It is an historic building and the office will be located on street level with the parking lot right outside the door. When we get a big sign out front, we will be visible to everyone coming through the city on I-40.
We plan to have a Yard Sale in the parking lot on June 13th from 8am-5pm and are accepting donations for the sale at the office June 8-12 between 10am-6pm. We can also use "clean-up" help at the office that week and help manning the sale on the 13th. As we are downtown in the Old CityDowntown North area, we plan on participating with other galleries, businesses, and organizations in the First Friday events. Our goal is to have Open House during First Friday on July 3rd. Lofty goal perhaps, but that's what we are shooting for!
Though the Yard Sale is a fundraiser for the office, we are going to need more financial support and are asking those who can to go to make a monthly donation of $10 or $20 a month to help cover the cost of having a permanent office. We have a lot of work to do and we need everyone's help. Thank you so much for all you do!

April 24th, 2009 by TNDP
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Democratic Party today announced plans to reschedule its annual Jackson Day fundraiser for late summer 2009 due to logistical and scheduling issues. The event had been set for May 30. A new date and location will be announced shortly. Headlining the rescheduled event will be Governor Phil Bredesen, Democratic Leadership Council Chairman Harold Ford Jr., and a lineup of prominent Democrats committed to helping advance next year’s candidates and campaigns in Tennessee. “Jackson Day is a cherished tradition and a celebration of what it means to be a Tennessee Democrat,” said TNDP Chairman Chip Forrester. “We’re taking more time to plan this year’s event, which will serve as the kickoff of our 2010 efforts to take back the legislature and hold the governor’s office.”

New TNDP chair undertakes a 95 county strategy for 2010 elections
The Executive Committee of the Tennessee Democratic Party elected Chip Forrester, former TNDP treasurer as Chair of the Tennessee Democratic Party at their quarterly meeting on Saturday, January 24, 2008, in Nashville. Following his election, Forrester addressed the Executive Committee and pledged to - Open the party “to everyone who believes in the ideals of the Democratic Party, the party of hope and change” so the party becomes inclusive rather than a party of special interests;
- Build on the grassroots organization crafted by the Obama campaign to elect a Democratic governor and regain control of the Tennessee House of Representatives and Senate in 2010;
- Work with all the stakeholders who want to construct an effective Democratic Party in Tennessee
- Build a “comprehensive strategy for 2009 and 2010” by analyzing the rights and wrongs of 2008 during a “Campaign Summit”;
- Organize all 95 counties to run the campaign for Governor and the legislature for 2010.
Forrester can be contacted at www.tndp.org.
